Always poised to go one better in maiden hurdle

ALWAYS, fresh from a decent effort at Galway a week, ago, can land the Michael Holland Tyres Maiden Hurdle at Roscommon this evening.

Always poised to go one better in maiden hurdle

Noel Meade’s gelding was having his first outing since Thurles in November at Ballybrit and he performed with distinct promise.

He finished two and a half lengths second behind Christy Roche’s heavily-backed market leader, Selby Road, and faces nothing of that calibre now.

John Oxx could be in line for a double with two horses making their seasonal debuts, Arawan and Brave Geronimo.

Arawan, a trifle disappointing as a two-year-old, should still hold all the aces in the Oran Maiden.

He rounded off his juvenile days with a length second to France, it was seven lengths back to the third, at Limerick in October and that appears to give him the edge in this class.

Likewise, Brave Geronimo should be too good for his rivals in the Lecarrow Maiden.

The son of Darshaan rounded off last season with a length second to Tajseed in a 20-runner contest at Leopardstown.

Johnny Murtagh rides both Oxx horses and is a significant booking for Potsdam in the Roscommon Oil Handicap.

Potsdam was the medium of a massive gamble at Galway, tumbling down from 25-1 to 6’s.

Ultimately, the touch failed and he went under by three and a half lengths to Silver Sparay.

That race was run over an extended mile and dropping down to seven furlongs now looks in favour of the selection.
