Well handicapped Fuerta Ventura can complete hat-trick

She failed to score in seven attempts last season, but has clearly come on plenty between two and three.

Ken Condon's daughter of Desert Sun made a winning reappearance when taking her maiden by six lengths at Thurles.

The handicapper obviously believed that was a very moderate contest and he left the selection on her mark of 80. Fuerta Ventura took advantage of the generosity when producing a gutsy performance to beat Brogue Lanterns (rec. 7lbs) by two and a half lengths at Navan on Saturday.

She now has to carry a mandatory 5lbs penalty for that, but it seems safe to assume will be going up by more in future races!

Michael Cunningham's Rock Snow Drop appears to hold a leading chance in the Thomastown Handicap Hurdle.

This is an ordinary contest and the six-year-old ran really well last time when beaten a length into second by Dusty Doolan at Navan.

Considering it was a further 12 lengths to the third, a rise of 4lbs for Rock Snow Drop doesn't seem excessive.

Caroline Hutchinson's Another Biffo is the one to beat in the Herronville Maiden Hurdle, where the emphasis is on quantity rather than quality.

He was mildly disappointing when only sixth to City Of Sails at Cork, but his previous third to Afistfullofdollars and Lost Time at Navan reads a lot better in the context of this race.
