BEHKIYRA is set to line up for the Irish Oaks at the Curragh in two weeks time following a classy performance in the Martin Molony Stakes at Limerick last night.

Behkiyra set for crack at the Oaks

The John Oxx-trained filly was having only her second start and improved markedly from her debut victory at Cork to land the Listed contest with ease.

Fran Berry produced the Aga Khan's daughter of Entrepreneur to challenge Unique Pose early in the straight. She went on at the furlong pole and quickened impressively to score by five lengths.

"She was coughing in May and that's why she didn't run until Cork. She won what looked like an ordinary maiden very easily and Mick (Kinane) said she would come on a lot which she obviously did," said Oxx.

"She's a big rangy filly a real good sort and should come on again for that run. She's in the Irish Oaks and I suspect that's where she'll go next."

The same connections recorded a double when Kastoria landed the Chesser Auctioneers EBF Fillies Maiden.

The Selkirk filly was sent for home a furlong out by Berry and kept on well to see off the challenge of Briolette by two lengths.

Night Sphere showed a great attitude when squeezing through a gap on the rail to land the Irish Stallions Farms EBF Median Auction Maiden for Francis Crowley. Declan McDonogh asked the filly to quicken a furlong out and she kept on nicely to beat Baynes Cross by a length.

Stuttgart just held on to claim victory here last month but had a much easier time as she followed up under Cathy Gannon in the Croom House Stud EBF Fillies Handicap.

Settle (20/1) defied a 670-day absence to claim the Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap while Manor Law got up late on under Pat Shanahan to land the Wilo Engineering Maiden.

TRALEE racecourse yesterday announced the rescheduling of the fixture lost in June as an extra day to their Rose Of Tralee Festival meeting in August. That will now run from Monday to Friday, August 22-26.
