Berry bandwagon rolls on

FRAN BERRY continued his relentless pursuit of a first Jockey’s Championship when recording another double, on Miss Isabela and Carlesimo, at Bellewstown.

Berry bandwagon rolls on

Berry was seen at his strongest when landing Miss Isabela a battling winner of the Cassidy’s Fun Fair Maiden.

Berry completed his double when Carlesimo, trained by Noel Meade, overcame a 13 months absence to land the Castleview Homes Handicap.

Carlesimo will be aimed at the Galway Festival.

Carlesimo was Berry’s 39th winner of the season which leaves his six clear of former champion Pat Smullen who was on the mark when Clonard captured the AIB Median Auction Maiden and survived a stewards’ enquiry.

Bye Bye Ben appreciated the drop to five furlongs and the application of blinkers when winning the opening Two Year-Old Maiden in a tight finish from Shinko Dancer.

The Seamus Murphy Yellow Sam 30th anniversary hurdle was considered a match between odds-on favourite Desert Island and Oriental Rock. The pair dominated the betting and the race but were comfortably beaten by 16/1 shot Princess Comanche.
