“Media Puzzle had a setback in Dubai and I’m just hoping to have him ready for the Leger although his preparation has not been helped by the continuing fast ground here.
“Maharib will run in the English St Leger and Lowlander, who is unlikely to get in the Melbourne Cup, will run in the Irish Cesarewitch. He’d probably have to win it well to convince me that he’d go to Melbourne.
“Regarding In Time’s Eye, it remains to be seen whether he would stay two miles and there are plenty of races for him here if he didn’t go.”
Media Puzzle is the 12-1 favourite to repeat his success of last year at Flemington following the publication of the weights.
The gelding took the two-mile race last season and still could defend his title on November 4 despite having to carry 9lb more
this time having been given 8st 13lb.
Media Puzzle was Weld's second Melbourne Cup winner, with Vintage Crop having triumphed in 1993.
Coral have Marcus Tregoning’s Mubtaker as the 12-1 joint favourite while William Hill have him at 14-1 along with Godolphin’s Mamool.
In other market moves Hugs Dancer was slashed to 20-1 from 66-1 by Coral following the news that he is on target for the Group One contest.
