Mubtaker’s Newbury date

MUBTAKER could round off his 2005 campaign in the Group Three Stan James St Simon Stakes at Newbury on Saturday.

The eight-year-old looked set for retirement earlier in the season after a couple of a disappointing runs but he underwent a late-season renaissance, notching up three wins on the bounce before finishing unplaced in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

“Hopefully he will run on Saturday,” said trainer Marcus Tregoning yesterday.
