TIMMY MURPHY has given his backing to the changes in starting procedures for jump races which came into force yesterday at Newton Abbot.

The new rules are designed to prevent runners getting a ‘flyer’ as the tape rises.

“I think it’s a good idea, especially at places like Cheltenham and Aintree where races are very, very competitive and everybody wants to be handy. There’s always a big rush on and things can get out of hand,” Murphy told At The Races.
