Easy pickings for smart Adamant Approach

THE very valuable Powers’ Gold Cup at Fairyhouse this afternoon has a farcical appearance, with only three possible runners.

Indeed, one of them, One Night Out contested yesterday’s Irish Grand National. He fell, but it set to take his chance again today.

The contest should provide the smart Adamant Approach with easy pickings. He is a class horse in his own right and an adequate display of jumping will surely suffice. He warmed up for this with a smooth-as-silk performance at Cork last month. The nine-year-old jumped and travelled well, easing to a comfortable four lengths defeat of Knock Knock.

Easily the most interesting contest on a poor card is the Boylesports’ Hurdle, which brings together some useful sorts.

Central House and Atlantic Rhapsody will have their supporters but In The Forge, who likes good ground, gets the vote.

He hasn’t run over flights since beating Direct Bearing and Patriot Games at this meeting a year ago.

In The Forge made a promising reappearance, however, on the flat at the Curragh recently when finishing eighth behind Beef Or Salmon.

The Powers’ Gold Label Handicap Hurdle is wide open, but the frustrating Janidou might be worth risking for a little each-way. He made no show, in very testing conditions, behind Martin Pipe’s Korelo at Sandown in early March.

Previously, Janidou finished ten lengths third behind one of his main rivals now, Healy’s Pub (rec. 12lbs), at Leopardstown.
