Top award for Geraghty

BARRY GERAGHTY was yesterday honoured with the Powers Gold Label/Irish Independent Overall Racing Award for outstanding achievement in horseracing in 2003.

Geraghty, 24, has had a marvellous season, which included landing the top jockey award after riding five winners at the Cheltenham Festival and then triumphing on Co Cork trainer Jimmy Mangan’s Monty’s Pass in the Martell Grand National at Aintree last April.

Five category awards, voted for by the public, were also presented to: owner, JP McManus; trainer, Dermot Weld; breeder, the Aga Khan; and John Maloney, manager of Galway Racecourse.
