Dettori still eight clear in title race

FRANKIE DETTORI remains eight clear of Kieren Fallon in the race for the jockeys’ championship after both had one winner at Newmarket yesterday.

The Italian leads 169-161 after partnering 12-1 shot Vinando to victory for trainer Charlie Egerton in the Greene King IPA Champions Beer Handicap.

Fallon had struck first on 4-1 favourite Rob Roy in the opening Beech House Stud EBF Maiden Stakes. Fallon, the six-times champion, has the chance to cut the gap as he has a full book of seven rides at Newmarket while Dettori takes a day off from the title race to be in action at Longchamp for the first day of the Arc meeting.
