Springwater Boy hot

SPRINGWATER BOY completed a nice double for Cashel trainer Ann Wade when taking the final of the featured Tote Retention A3 575 Stakes at Curraheen Park on Saturday night.

The winner was quickly into his stride and led Satin Annie and the favourite, Westmead Rumble, into the bend.

He was always in control afterwards and comfortably held the running on Barntick Boy close home for a length success in 31.74.

Wade had earlier taken the first of the Guinness Trophy qualifiers with Pencil Pusher, her only other runner on the night.

The winner was fast away and made all to beat Civil Rights by two and a half lengths in 28.82.

Track record holder, Far Budgie, made it two from two for the year when taking the second Guinness qualifier. The 5/4 favourite was moderately away but slipped through nicely on the rails at the opening bend and, clear at halfway, eased home two and a half lengths clear of Sleek Mountain in 28.99.

Both those time were surpassed by Hi Tip in the last of the night’s qualifiers.

The Stephen Bourke trained dog was fast away from his inside berth and made all for an easy three lengths success over Historic Moment in 28.68.

The in-form John Kiely struck again when Gifted Approach took the final of the Tote Retention A3 525 Stakes.

The winner was quickly into his stride and led Palatine Anna, his only serious rival throughout, into the bend.

The winner had a two length lead at halfway and comfortably maintained his advantage afterwards, coming home a length and a half clear in 29.12.

Entries close at the track at noon today for the following races next Thursday night at a benefit meeting in aid of the Tsunami Disaster Relief Fund: Open 330yds (winner 1,000); Open 575 (winner 1,000); Open 750 (winner 1,000). Last entries are also being taken for the Guinness Trophy.
