Speed king Cian wins in Germany

Show jumper Cian O’Connor yesterday proved quick off the mark again when, on the opening day of the five-star Aachen event in Germany, he triumphed with ABC Landliebe. Amazingly, it was the pairing’s eighth speed win this year.

O’Connor, rapidly claiming the title of Europe’s speed king, had more than a second to spare over McLain Ward (Goldika 559).

The Meath-based rider lines out for Ireland in next Friday’s crucial Samsung Super League Nations Cup at the famed venue.

Billy Twomey was ninth in the same competition on Whinnie Jackson. The British-based Corkman is expected to return his top horse, Luidam, to nations cup competition at Aachen on Friday for the first time this year, following a lengthy lay-off due to injury.
