Morrison fires Starzaan warning shot

HUGHIE MORRISON has warned Starzaan will need the race when he returns to action after a long lay-off at Windsor on Saturday.

The six-year-old is being thrown in at the deep end against Inglis Drever in the Grade One totesport Long Walk Hurdle after being sidelined with a leg problem that has kept him off the track for 20 months.

"He's an intended runner on Saturday but will need the run," said Morrison. "He had a little leg problem last year and has taken a while to come to hand this year.

"Three miles first time out on sticky ground is going to take a bit of getting. It's just really a run to get him ready for later."

"There are a couple of races at Cheltenham. One on the 1st and one at the end of January. After that there's the race he won a couple of years ago, the National Spirit," added Morrison.

Meanwhile Morrison's bright prospect Secret Ploy has a slight leg problem and will not run this season.

Unbeaten in three bumpers during the 2003-04 campaign, the five-year-old showed plenty of promise over hurdles last term before finishing 10th in the Royal & SunAlliance Novices' Hurdle.

"He's had a bit of a problem and won't run this season," said Morrison.

"As he's a young horse we're going to give him time.

"I think it will probably do him good to have a holiday."
