Tapit ready for Derby test

MICHAEL DICKINSON reports his Kentucky Derby contender Tapit at his “best racing weight” ahead of his bid for the first leg of the American Triple Crown at Churchill Downs today.

Tapit ready for Derby test

The grey colt had quickly added weight after his cosy win over Master David in the Wood Memorial at Aqueduct earlier this month.

The Wood Memorial was Tapit’s second start of the season and only the fourth of his career.

“He’s going to improve, he’ll definitely be fitter,” said Dickinson.

Wimbledon and St Averil were late withdrawals from the race yesterday.

The Cliff’s Edge, trained by Nick Zito, is the 4-1 favourite from 7-2 with Coral.
