Elusive City may return at Lingfield

ELUSIVE CITY, winner of the 2002 Group One Prix Morny, could make his seasonal debut at Lingfield on Saturday.

The three-year-old colt won the French juvenile race over six furlongs last August at Deauville after being first past the post in the Gerrard Investment Management Richmond Stakes at Goodwood.

Elusive City later lost the Goodwood win and the victory he recorded on his first start at Lingfield after testing positive for a banned substance.

He was slightly disappointing on his last start of the season when third to Oasis Dream in the Shadwell Stud Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket where he appeared to fail to settle.

Elusive City has been entered for the Bet Direct On 0800 32 93 93 Dubai Trial Conditions Stakes, a £25,000-added contest over a mile on the all-weather track at Lingfield.

Trainer Gerard Butler is still undecided about Saturday’s race but is considering a crack at the £75,000 Spring Cup over seven furlongs at the same track on March 15.

“He could run on March 15 in a conditions race and I’m very happy with him.”

Meanwhile, 17 horses have been entered for Saturday’s feature event at Doncaster, the £35,000-added Grimthorpe Chase. The list is headed by Venetia Williams‘ Bramblehill Duke, while rising trainer Emma Lavelle could run Coole Spirit, who would be seeking his fourth consecutive win.
