GRAND National hero Monty’s Pass made a triumphant return to the racecourse when landing the Paul Higgins Memorial Sweepstake, a charity race over a mile and six furlongs in aid of the Irish Guide Dogs For The Blind, at Cork yesterday.

x The ten-year-old was partnered by trainer Jimmy Mangan’s wife, Mary, who was only having a third ever spin in public.

“I rode in two bumpers when I was young”, quipped Mrs Mangan, who had no less than four stone of lead in her saddle.
