Dane poised for jumps joy

JOE CROWLEY’S Stylish Dane can make a successful start over jumps in the Equine Warehouse three-year-old Maiden Hurdle at Clonmel this evening.

He’s had no less than 11 runs on the level through the current campaign and will surely relish a change of scenery.

The selection has managed a couple of victories on the flat, taking two handicaps at the Curragh, to add to a maiden success gained at Limerick last season.

Last week at Tralee, Crowley introduced another juvenile, Urban, to make an impressive debut over flights and the chances are Stylish Dane will have worked and schooled with him.

Add in the fact all surfaces seem to come the same, that he is easily the highest rated horse in the contest, and it all says Stylish Dane is nap material!

Monaser, who proved very disappointing at the Curragh last time, still looks best in the Rathronan Maiden.

That contest took place over three months ago and Monaser, a strong second favourite, could only manage a well beaten eighth of 20 behind Liss Ard.

Previously, he split Akarem and the enigmatic Napoleon at Leopardstown and is entitled to the benefit of the doubt in this weak event.

Tony Mullins’ Bold Jack Donohue, a real talking horse prior to his debut, gets the vote in the Kilcash Bumper.

The son of Oscar was put in a short-priced favourite at Gowran Park in February. Despite being a major drifter he still went off market leader, but could only manage a remote third to Knockabooly and Augherskea. Given plenty time to mature, the five-year-old should be a different proposition now.

Pablo, winner of the Lincoln for Barry Hills at Doncaster last season and with a rating in England in excess of 100, is the interesting one in the Nutri-Gard Maiden Hurdle. He is now in the care of the colourful Oliver Brady.
