Vinnie Roe can make winning reappearance

THE great Vinnie Roe can make a winning seasonal reappearance in the Listed Saval Beg Stakes at Leopardstown tonight.
Vinnie Roe can make winning reappearance

Now a venerable seven-year-old, he has been a credit to Dermot Weld through a long and honourable career and his canny handler is confident there is still plenty to come.

Weld reports his charge in excellent shape and Vinnie Roe is well capable of making light of the steadier of 10-2.

He only ran four times last season, taking a fourth Irish Leger at the Curragh, before rounding off his campaign by travelling to Australia for the Melbourne Cup.

What a race he ran to finish second, failing by a length and a quarter to concede high-class Makybe Diva 5lbs.

Weld supplies the nap in the shape of Kova Hall in the ten furlongs Cova Properties Handicap.

The son of Halling showed moderate form in three outings as a juvenile and was, obviously, rated accordingly. There is every chance, however, Kova Hall will leave his current mark well behind!

At Fairyhouse a week ago, he finished just over three lengths fourth in the contest won by the gambled-on Back To Paris.

A cursory glance at the form, though, tells little of the true story. Kova Hall was blocked a couple of times in the straight, when attempting to mount a challenge, and is now the one to beat.

Weld’s Jubilant Note, who went down by a length to Polish Odyssey at the Curragh in April, looks sure to run a big race in the Irishtown Maiden.

Narrow preference, however, is for Aidan O’Brien’s Bonanza. Kieren Fallon made a lot of use of the son of Danehill at Goodwood last week when third behind heavily backed Marcus Tregoning-trained War At Sea. Bonanza can only come on for the experience.
