Rebel heads Cesarewitch entries

DUAL Ascot Gold Cup winner Royal Rebel heads the entries for the totesport Cesarewitch at Newmarket on October 16.

The eight-year-old is one of eight possibles in the Newmarket event for Mark Johnston, having returned this season from nearly two years off the racecourse, finishing fourth in the Royal Ascot showpiece this time around.

The Middleham trainer has also entered Double Obsession, Always Waining and Pushkin, who was beaten only a head in the Prix du Cadran at Longchamp two years ago when trained by Elie Lellouche.

Handicap king Sir Mark Prescott has a seven-strong team, including No Refuge and Fall in Line.

Others that catch the eye are the Michael Jarvis-trained Chester Cup winner Anak Pekan and Cupboard Lover, for last year’s winning trainer Nicky Henderson.

Meanwhle, a total of 133 horses have been entered for the totesport Cambridgeshire at Newmarket on October 2.

The £130,000 prize has attracted a number of useful performers, including Godolphin’s Ancient World, the consistent Michael Jarvis-trained St Andrews, Geoff Wragg’s Autumn Glory and Take A Bow from the Patrick Chamings yard.
