Kinane completes memorable York treble

MICK KINANE rounded off a memorable day at York by completing a 195-1 treble on Beautyandthebeast (9-2) in the closing Sandringham Handicap.

He had already scored in the two feature events on Peeress in the Windsor Forest and Azamour, trained like Beautyandthebeast by John Oxx, in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes.

Borthwick Girl made most of the running and having broken clear of the pack with two furlongs to go, she looked set to score until Kinane’s mount flew home down the stands side to deny the pacemaker by a neck.

Oxx beamed: “We had a bit of luck. They went a fast gallop and began to flag in front.”

She ran very lazily early on and she’s a bit inexperienced. This was really her first tough race.

“She didn’t know what was happening early on, but she’s gradually picked them up all the way down the straight.

“Today has been a dream. These were our only two runners of the week and they’ve both won.”

The filly may now go for the Group Three Brownstown Stakes at Leopardstown on July 2 over seven furlongs.

Kinane said: “They went very quick. Because of the ground I gave her time to get together.

“In the straight I decided to go on the stands side and we suddenly began to reel them in.

“It’s been a special day for the team.”
