Irish hopes fail in Derby Lane Million

THE Irish representatives failed to survive the quarter-finals in the Derby Lane Million at the St Petersburg track on Wednesday night.

Loughrea dog Malbay Mole was baulked on the opening bend from a most unfavourable draw but he will be a runner at Derby Lane on Million final night tomorrow week. Pat Dalton’s Dark Sienna made her exit in the same heat after finishing fifth.

John O’Callaghan from Bandon had no luck either as Baurnahulla Hero broke slowly before finishing fourth in his heat behind Jack Whistler.

There was better news of Mayor Daley, an American trained dog, bred by Matt O'Donnell. He finished fourth in Malbay Mole’s race and qualified joint 13th of the 16 semi-final survivors.
