Poc Fada can hit target

CHRISTY ROCHE’S Poc Fada has a leading chance in the Carrowholly Shell Fish Handicap Chase at Ballinrobe tonight.

The eight-year-old has produced very little in a couple of pops over fences, but is surely much better than he has shown so far.

As a result of his moderate efforts, he gets in here off a mark of 96. Contrast that with his current rating over flights of 109, 13lbs higher, and the ingredients are there for him to do the business.

The selection returned from a little break over hurdles at Sligo last Thursday. In a competitive and valuable contest, Poc Fada was beaten three and a half lengths into fourth place behind Coolfore Glen. That will have left the eight-year-old primed for this test!

Sweet Spot, seventh of seven behind Dandy Man at Naas a week ago, is the choice in the Irish Stallion Farms’ EBF Auction Maiden.

There were excuses for Eamon Tyrrell’s filly then, as she stumbled badly when attempting to launch a challenge two furlongs out.

Previously, the daughter of Generous performed with promise on her debut when runner-up to East Chestnut at Fairyhouse.

If things go right for Man Of Aran, then he is the one to beat in the Corrib Oil Claiming Race. He likes to dominate from the front and may be able to do just that in this class.

His last two efforts have been disappointing, but if Man Of Aran can run up to the form which saw him make all for a three and half lengths success, under top weight, in a Leopardstown handicap three runs back then he will go close.
