Turtle can make a winning bow

SQUIRTLE TURTLE can get his jumping career off to the perfect start in the Lympne Juvenile Maiden Hurdle at Folkestone today.

The four-year-old is a rare runner over hurdles for trainer Paul Cole and heads into the race in fine heart after winning on the all-weather last time out.

Squirtle Turtle did not show a huge amount in six starts on turf, managing a couple of promising third places but not much more than that.

However, he came good on his first all-weather start at Southwell earlier this month, producing a great fightback to take a moderate amateur event over 11 furlongs.

Squirtle Turtle hung on really well for a neck victory that day and the omens for him seeing out this extended two-mile-one-furlong trip are good. He is well worth a punt.

Another who holds a winning chance is Majed, who contests the Tote Bookmakers Handicap Chase.

Paul Nicholls is in charge of the eight-year-old after he was switched from the Martin Pipe yard and he has been running creditably this season, without actually winning.

The gelding was a seven-length fourth to the smart Cresswell Quay last time over three and a quarter miles and before that a couple of bad jumping errors cost him dearly at Plumpton.

Majed was a useful hurdler for Pipe and he has the ability to win races over the bigger obstacles.

At Exeter, Janus Du Cochet can take the Compare Odds @ gg-odds.com Beginners’ Chase. Pipe’s seven-year-old was a classy performer over hurdles, being placed in a Grade Two contest, and made a fair start to his career over bigger obstacles when second to Wild Knight at Wincanton last month.

Janus Du Cochet was having his first start for 720 days there and he may have been a little rusty as a blunder cost him vital lengths. He will have progressed for the outing and can oblige here.

At Southwell, Berkeley Heights can take the Bet Direct Interactive Banded Stakes.

Bryan Smart’s four-year-old ran a fair fourth at Wolverhampton last time after slightly missing the break.
