ENGLISH racing’s regulators showed no sign of backing down in their bitter dispute with the jockeys over mobile phone restrictions following the cancellation of tomorrow’s meeting at Sandown due to a riders’ boycott.

John Maxse, the Jockey Club's director of public relations, said: "No-one benefits from the meeting being called off, least of all the jockeys.

"The cancellation of the meeting will not have improved their bargaining position in the ongoing discussion and debate we are having with them over the issue of mobile phones.
