Limerick boxer Lee Reeves in hospital after knockout loss

Limerick boxer Lee Reeves remains in hospital after a heavy knockout in defeat at Dublin’s 3Arena on Saturday night.

Reeves had been on top before losing against Gary Cully on Saturday night in the 10th round. Cully claimed the BUI Celtic super-lightweight title.

The Limerick boxer, aged 31, was stretchered from the ring and taken to the hospital.

Boxing promoter Frank Warren said on social media: “All our thoughts and prayers are with Lee Reeves and his family at this time as he remains in hospital.

"Everyone at Queensberry is thinking of him and we're in constant contact with his team regarding his condition as we hope for positive news.” Boxer Gary Cully also extended Reeves his best wishes after the knockout.

“My prayers and thoughts are with Lee Reeves, hopefully he's OK. He came in there as a big underdog after fighting relatively at a lower level up until now, but he really showed that he can operate at a higher level. Huge credit to him,” Cully said.

Lee Reeves is not only known for his sporting achievements, but also respected in the local community for volunteering with Treaty Suicide Prevention.
