Andrew Coscoran produced a terrific run at the World Indoor Tour Gold meeting in Liévin, France this evening to break his Irish indoor 1500m record, the 29-year-old Dubliner clocking 3:33.09 to finish third.

Victory went to world champion Isaac Nader in a Portuguese indoor record of 3:32.44, with Italy’s Federico Riva also setting a national indoor record in second of 3:33.04.

Coscoran attacked the race in aggressive fashion, slotting in behind Nader as they passed 800m in around 1:52, and despite tying up a little in the closing laps he held on well to go under the previous Irish indoor record of 3:33.40, which he split en route to his mile record at the Millrose Games in New York last year.

After a breakthrough 2025, in which he reached the world final over 1500m, Coscoran has enjoyed a strong start to 2026, clocking 7:30.97 for 3000m in Boston and running a 3:49.54 mile in New York. He is qualified for both the 1500m and 3000m at next month’s World Indoors in Poland.

Also in Liévin, Sharlene Mawdsley ran her first race since the Tokyo World Championships last September, the Newport sprinter finishing third in the 400m in 51.85, close to her indoor best of 51.69, with Slovakia’s Emma Zapletalova taking victory in 51.40 ahead of Dutch athlete Lieke Klaver (51.67).

Luke McCann continued his comeback from injury with a season’s best in the B 1500m, the Dubliner clocking 3:39.89 to finish sixth.

In the concluding race of the evening, British star Keely Hodgkinson broke the long-standing world indoor 800m record, the reigning Olympic champion clocking 1:54.87. The previous record was 1:55.82 by Jolanda Ceplak of Slovenia, who later tested positive for EPO.
