Charlie Smyth didn't let a pre-match illness get in the way of yet another record-setting Sunday as the Irishman kicked his longest field goal yet to help guide New Orleans to another victory.
The Saints won their fourth in a row to move to 6-10 on the season with a Week 17 road win over the Tennessee Titans in Nashville. Smyth had been added to the New Orleans injury report on Saturday after reportedly suffering from virus-like symptoms and when he missed from 43 yards in the first quarter it looked as though he may be feeling the affects.
However the former Down goalkeeper has made an incredible habit of serving up something special every week and fresh from kicking a whopping 17 points last week, he would find new range in Nashville.

Smyth landed his first field goal of the day midway through the second quarter with a booming 56-yard effort, with just the right amount of swerve, which tied the longest of his NFL career.
In the third quarter he would set a new mark — splitting the uprights from 57 yards, leading the CBS Sports commentators to give a shoutout to those watching in Smyth's local pub back home in Mayobridge.

For good measure, Smyth successfully kicked all three of his extra points as rookie quarterback Tyler Shough again impressed for the Saints who wrap up their 2025 campaign next week with a Week 18 showdown with the Falcons in Atlanta.
Elsewhere in Sunday's early action veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers was unable to stop his Pittsburgh team from going down to a stunning upset at the hands of the Cleveland Browns. The Steelers needed a win to clinch the division title but coughed up an ugly 13-6 loss to the lowly Browns. That means Pittsburgh now faces a winner-takes-all final week showdown with the Baltimore Ravens.
