Greta Streimikyte and Orla Comerford both won gold medals for Ireland on Sunday at the World Para Athletics Championships in New Delhi.

Streimikyte got Ireland's championships off to a superb start, storming to gold in the T13 1500m. The three-time Paralympian stamped her authority on the race early, moving to the front of the pack and maintaining control before powering clear in the closing stages to cross the line in 4:39.62.

The victory marks Streimikyte’s first-ever World Championship medal, a historic moment in her career.

“To be honest I like taking a race, taking it on so I just took the opportunity," she said.

She finished 11.5 seconds ahead of Spain's Izaskun Osés Ayúcar in second. Neutral athlete Elena Pautova was a further 0.57 back in the bronze medal position.

Comerford claimed victory in the T13 100m, winning in a championship record of 11.88. She finished 0.19 ahead of silver medallist Rayane Soares Da Silva of Brazil and 0.53 ahead of bronze medallist Kym Crosby of the United States.

"It feels amazing!" said Comerford.

"I feel like all season this was my goal, it’s not one you want to put out there and be like I want gold I want to be champion but I kind of kept my head down I knew that I had to work hard.”

Comerford has been going from strength to strength since the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games, where she delivered a standout performance in the T13 100m , securing the bronze medal with a time of 11.94 seconds marking her first Paralympic podium finish.
