Katie Taylor has been granted an extension on the negotiation period for the WBC-ordered trilogy against Chantelle Cameron.

It means the Irish two-division champion has until September 18 to reach a deal and avoid a purse bid hearing for the mandatory bout. The WBC’s decision to push out its deadline prompted a frustrated response from Cameron, who has consistently campaigned for the fight since they last met in November 2023.

“Today was the deadline for Katie and her team to come to some kind of agreement with my team,” she posted on social media.

“To either fight me or vacate the world title belt, which I think was really reasonable considering I’ve spent the last two years getting back in position to fight for it since losing it in our rematch back in 2023.

"This is the second extension that’s been granted. Hopefully the next 14 days (21) is the final extension/deadline and the belt is vacated as I don’t think Katie and her team want the fight which is fair enough but the 140 division should crack on.

“P.S. Zero negotiations has even been attempted so this is just a delay to stop the belt from being vacated, but no attempt at all to defend it against me.”

Taylor last fought in July when she beat Amanda Serrano for the third time. It was a comprehensive victory at New York’s Madison Square Garden. Post-fight, she said she would take some time to consider her future in the sport.

“I don’t know. I am just going to enjoy this victory right now. Sit back, reflect and I will make a decision on that soon.”

It was the closest she has come to confirming retirement plans, but in recent days the 39-year-old took to social media to share footage of her training with a suggestive caption: “Ready for what’s next!”

After seeing off her greatest rival Serrano, Taylor dismissed Cameron’s campaign for a third showdown.

"I think Chantelle has to see if she can sell out a 1,000-seat arena first. I don't think she can sell out any stadium at all," Taylor said in July.

"I think I've made her more money than she really deserves to be quite honest."

Cameron fought on the undercard that night after joining Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions, defending her WBC interim world super-lightweight title with a points decision over Jessica Camara.
