Eddie Dunbar withdraws from Tour de France with wrist injury 

Dunbar got caught up in a large pileup, and although the Banteer cyclist did continue thereafter, he has since been forced to opt out of the race, having not started Saturday's stage-eight stage racing.

Eddie Dunbar's maiden Tour de France has been cut short due to an injury suffered in a crash that occurred late in Friday's stage.

28-year-old Dunbar got caught up in a large pileup, and although the Banteer cyclist did continue thereafter, he has since been forced to opt out of the race, having not started Saturday's stage eight.

Jayco Alula have said that Cork native Dunbar will withdraw from the Tour due to wrist pain.

"Following a crash in the final kilometres of yesterday’s stage, Dunbar has been suffering with pain in his wrist and a decision was taken to stop, for his safety."

Dunbar had taken an impressive fourth-place finish in Thursday's sixth stage, which was won by Ben Healy.
