British rider Tim Shoreman took the opening stage of the 70th Rás Tailteann on Wednesday in a sprint finish.

The Wheelbase/Cabtech/Castelli rider stormed clear ahead of Niall McLoughlin (Connacht Cycling), with another British cyclist, Will Tidball, taking third.
