Veteran Kay Kelly one step away from Munster Junior road bowling glory

Kelly won the 1997 Queen of the Roads and is now finding her way back to winning ways 27 years later.

Kay Kelly, who started her bowling career as Kathleen Cooney, winning the 1997 Queen of the Roads, is working her way back into the bowling limelight.

She emigrated to Australia at the height of her career, but took up bowling again on her recent return to Ireland. She is now through to the Munster junior women’s final at Béal na Bláth. There she will face Marie Russell, daughter of 1993 All-Ireland senior champion, Sharon O’Driscoll, in a final that is capturing the imagination of swathes of bowling fans.
