A second Irish basketball player has been denied a transfer despite their prior club withdrawing from Basketball Ireland’s national league system.

Conor Byrne has been denied a transfer to Portlaoise Panthers in the National League, his boyhood club, despite his previous side SET Carlow withdrawing from the competition. Byrne’s transfer denial follows the Irish Examiner reporting on Friday that Hannah Thornton, an Irish international, was denied a transfer to Killester after DCU Mercy withdrew its adult teams.
