Hockey: Quins finish strongly to see off Waterford

Harlequins' Aoibhinn Martin, left, and Anne O'Farrell vie for the ball with Waterford's Vicki Moretti.

In their second game of the season Harlequins women’s top side took on Waterford at Farmers Cross.

Quins got off to a good start and controlled much of the first quarter, however it took until the 13th minute for them to capitalise through a nice run and strike from Michelle Barry to take the lead.

Quins continued to dominate into the second quarter but Waterford were back on level terms when Juana Barasich scored from a short corner to make it 1-1, slightly against the run of play.

However they weren’t level for long as Quins scored again two minutes later, when a strike into the circle was deflected into the goal by Maya Dullea.

From here Quins went from strength to strength, and increased their lead in the third quarter when Michelle Barry was on hand to finish a rebounded short corner. Quins completed the scoring in the final quarter with a lovely deflection from former Irish international Yvonne O'Byrne to finish the game as 4-1 winners.

It was a good day for one of their players, Cliodhna Sargent. As well as Quins win she also saw St Finbarr’s senior camogie side reach the Cork championship final, a team she is a selector with.
