When I was about 10 years old, I broke my front tooth. Nothing remarkable in that, given I was the youngest of four boys. While it was undoubtedly an off-the-ball incident executed with extreme prejudice in retribution for some act of brotherly bombast, I remember little, only my delight in temporary scarring.

Sure, I cried like a newborn, but once the shock passed the realisation of my graduation to being a ‘tough kid’ with street cred took over. It was short-lived, as first thing Monday morning I was taken to the dentist. And that's when things got weird. Instead of mending it the way these things are usually mended (by crowning the damaged fang), he chose instead to place a steel cap on top of my broken front tooth.
