What you might have missed yesterday 

Ciara Mageean was forced to withdraw from the Olympic games due to an Achilles tendon injury. She was due to run in the 1500m heats on Tuesday morning. 

Rhasidat Adeleke easily qualified for the 400m semi-finals by winning her heat. Sharlene Mawdsley and Sophie Becker will have to take the repechage route. 

Corkman Shane Sweetnam and Derry's Daniel Coyle have qualified for the individual showjumping final.

Who else is making headlines 

Mondo Duplantis set a new pole vault world record of 6.25m as he won gold at the Stade de France. 

Simone Biles won silver on the floor, adding to the three golds she had already won. 

Kenya’s Beatrice Chebet took gold in a thrilling women's 5000m after she sprinted home to upset compatriot Faith Kipyegon who was initially disqualified but then later reinstated to the silver medal position.

Keely Hodgkinson won the 800m, claiming Great Britain's first gold on the track.
