Derry’s Callum Devine (VW Polo GTi R5) and his Killarney co-driver Noel O’Sullivan won an exciting Assess Ireland Rally of the Lakes, round four of the Samdec Securities Irish Tarmac Championship. Through the six stages of the final leg they withstood the strong challenge of challenge of Welsh driver Matt Edwards (Ford Fiesta Rally2) and his Mallow born co-driver David Moynihan to win by 7.9s. Kilkenny’s Eddie Doherty/Tom Murphy (Skoda Fabia R5) were 59.9s further behind in third. Championship leader Keith Cronin/Mikie Galvin (Ford Fiesta Rally2) had to be content with fourth after losing two minutes and 20s and the lead on Saturday’s penultimate stage with a puncture.

Devine punched in the fastest time on the traditional morning opener at Moll’s Gap where he was 2.8s ahead of Cronin with Doherty another 2s further behind in third. Welsh ace Matt Edwards, on his maiden trip through “The Gap” occupied sixth place - 12.1s off the lead.
