Motorsport: Moffett brothers claim a one-two in Birr rally

A duel in the sunniest conditions of the season saw Monaghan’s Josh Moffett and his Limerick co-driver Keith Moriarty take their Citroen C3 Rally2 to a 17.6s victory over the Hyundai i20 Rally2 of Sam Moffett and co-driver James O’Reilly in the Garahy Family backed Birr Rally. 

The siblings had the edge over the rest of the opposition with the younger Josh proving unbeatable on his way to back to back wins in the Triton series. The battle for the final spot of the podium went down to the ninth and final stage and was secured by Donegal’s David Kelly and his Monaghan co-driver Arthur Kierans (VW Polo GTi R5), who were 44.5s further behind.
