There’s always an air of anticipation and excitement for the Corrib Oil Galway International Rally, the traditional season opener to the Irish Tarmac Rally Championship that revs into action on Saturday over challenging terrain to the north of the tribal county.
Derry’s Callum Devine (VW Polo GTi R5) begins the defence of his championship crown and along with regular rivals will have the added twin challenge of former British Rally champions Cork’s Keith Cronin and Welsh ace Matt Edwards, who have seven British titles between them, Cronin is also a former Irish Tarmac champion, the first to take the laurels in an R5 car (Citroen C3 R5) in 2016.
