World-class Olympic athletes have never grown on trees on this island of just a few million souls so it will be some achievement if one family, let alone one town or county, can produce a pair of them for Team Ireland.

Daniel Wiffen is already there. The 22-year old from the village of Magheralin in Co. Down lived up to his enormous potential last month when winning three gold medals at the European Short Course Swimming Championships in Romania.
