If I could choose one moment that defined the 24 year Bill Belichick era as head coach of the New England Patriots better than any other, it would not be any of his many post-victory hugs with Tom Brady, nor his monosyllabic answers at press conferences, or his refusal to call a time-out in the closing seconds of Super Bowl XLIX as his Patriots looked set to lose to the Seahawks.

Instead, I think about a live video image of his dog, Nike, sitting obediently on a chair alone in Belichick's kitchen, in front of two laptops and a scattering of notes, under the caption “Bill Belichick, Head Coach''.
