Paul O'Donovan and Fintan McCarthy have retained their lightweight men's double sculls World title after fending off Switzerland at the World Rowing Championships in Belgrade.

The Irish pair worked their way into the race as Norway and Switzerland took the race out. After 500m the Irish duo were sitting in fourth place but they maintained their pace and worked their way to second just behind Switzerland pair Jan Schaueble and Raphael Ahumada at the 1000m mark just 1.74s behind.
