Recognition for rowers among RTÉ Team of the Year awards

The RTÉ Sport Awards 2021 Team of the Year nominees have been revealed this afternoon, with nine 'teams' set to vie for this year's accolade at the ceremony on December 18.

There had been some surprise that rower Paul O'Donovan — Olympic gold medal winner with Fintan McCarthy — wasn't among the nominees for the individual award after a stellar year, since he is currently regarded among the best rowers in the world. But he and McCarthy have now been nominated for the team prize.
