Annalise Murphy using silver medal as motivation to race in Tokyo Olympics

Ireland's newest Olympic hero Annalise Murphy says she's using her silver medal as her motivation to race at the next Olympics.

The Dubliner, who came second in Rio, claims her competitive streak makes her think she could win gold in Tokyo 2020.

Annalise was welcomed home with a party in the People's Park in Dun Laoghaire yesterday and will meet the President on Sunday when he hosts a reception for team Ireland at the Áras.

Speaking to reporters earlier, she said she could be in line for another win in four years time: “Maybe it's part of my competitive nature but I am already becoming annoyed with the end of the race, being like, I could have got that gold medal.

So you know, it is definitely motivation to look at Tokyo and go maybe I could become a two-time gold medallist, maybe I could get a gold medal.”
