Rio police arrest Olympic boxer over sex assault allegation

Police in Rio de Janeiro have detained an Olympic boxer over allegations that he sexually assaulted two Brazilian women.

Officers said they had arrested Moroccan fighter Hassan Saada for possible assaults on two women working as waitresses in the Olympic Village.

According to the police statement, the attacks happened on Wednesday.

Police said Saada will be held in custody for 15 days while they conduct an investigation. Under Brazilian law, suspects can be held for a long period of time while a case is examined.

Light heavyweight Saada was due to fight Mehmet Nadir of Turkey in the preliminary rounds on Saturday. He was not predicted to be a medal contender.
