Serena Williams enlisted some unusual help to finish a 5k race

Serena Williams took an unorthodox approach to a 5k race this week - enlisting a taxi to get her to the finish line.

The race was one she had arranged herself as a fundraiser for charity, the Serena Williams Live Ultimate Run in Miami Beach.

Naturally, the tennis star wanted to take part in her own race, but was hampered by an existing injury.

Not wanting to let her fans and fellow participants down, she hailed a cab to get her to the finish line to greet the other runners.

“I didn’t run the whole way this year but next year I will,” she promised in a video on Facebook.

Serena’s older sister Venus finished the race, along with approximately 3,000 other runners.

The 34-year-old is having a good week despite her injury - yesterday Sports Illustrated named her their Sportsperson of the Year.
