VIDEO: ‘Stop the f***ing fight!’: Boxer appeals to ref on behalf of battered opponent

This clip from a boxing match that took place a week ago has gone viral because of the actions of the victor.

Willis Meehan was cruising to victory against Leamy Tato in the heavyweight bout in New Zealand, so much so that he pleaded with the referee to stop the fight.

Meehan was pummeling a clearly defeated Tato and yelled at the referee to end the contest.

“Stop the f***ing fight!” he shouted, with Tato’s blood seen hitting the camera lens.

As soon as the ref called a halt Meehan put his arms around his opponent, while continuing to berate the official for letting the bout go on so long.

According to a report in the UK Independent the fight should have been stopped after the first round but instead continued into a second.

"I think when the ref sees it’s an obvious outclassing he should step in earlier," Meehan said in a post-fight interview. “But it’s the hurt business we are in.

“I got the job done and he’s safe, he’s on his two feet at the end of the night.”
