Andy Murray was welcomed back onto Centre Court with a standing ovation and began the defence of his Wimbledon title in style by taking the first set 6-1 against Belgian David Goffin.

Even those in the Royal Box, where his grandparents and father Willie were seated, stood to acclaim Murray as he walked out to open the tournament on the main show court, the preserve of the reigning men’s champion.
