Emotional Robson bows out of Wimbledon

Home favourite Laura Robson’s Wimbledon dream ended today as she crashed out of the tournament after reaching the second week for the first time in her career.

Robson, 19, appeared close to tears as she was defeated following a tense match against Estonian Kaia Kanepi, 28.

But she never lost the backing of the crowd and received a resounding cheer as she left the court.

The teenager, who wore a determined look on her face for much of the fourth-round clash, lost out 6-7 (6-8), 5-7.

Earlier she was greeted with a rousing ovation as she stepped onto Court One.

But despite constant cheers of “come on, Laura”, she was unable to secure victory.
