President congratulates bronze hero O'Connor

President Michael D. Higgins has congratulated Cian O'Connor after he took bronze at the London Olympics today.

The Co Kildare rider had to settle for the third step of the podium after losing a dramatic jump-off at Greenwich Park.

O'Connor - who was only handed a late call-up to the games after Denis Lynch was withdrawn - jumped two clear rounds this afternoon.

However he incurred a single time penalty after he was just two hundredths of a second over the time allowed for his second round.
